The website of a US based influenza expert has suggested that the World Health Organisation will soon declare a level six swine flu alert, following new and unlinked cases of transmission in Scotland.

A 45-year-old woman, a five year-old child and a 16-year-old have all tested positive for swine flu, the Scottish Government confirmed today.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who is also Scottish Health Secretary, said there was “no obvious connection” between the teenager and any other confirmed or probable cases in the town.

If no link emerges between the girl and any other cases, it could be the first evidence of “community transmission” in Scotland.

These facts have prompted prominent influenza expert Dr Henry L Niman’s Recombinomics site to predict that a UN declaration of phase six is imminent:

“The confirmed community transmission in Scotland, fulfills the WHO requirement of community transmission in two or more regions to raise the pandemic level from 5 to 6.” Niman’s article states.

“Although swine H1N1 was widespread in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, the WHO maintained the pandemic level at phase 5 because community transmission was not confirmed outside of North America.” the article explains.

Dr Niman is known for pioneering the flu monoclonal antibody, which is widely used throughout the pharmaceutical, biotech, and research industries.

The news dovetails with reports of surges in cases of the virus worldwide.

WHO reported more than 1000 new cases around the globe within the last 24 hours, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 7520.

Level six is the highest level on the WHO pandemic scale, indicating a full scale global outbreak of the swine flu.

Imposing a level 6 would give governments around the world a perfect excuse to impose restrictions on movement and liberties, even though many scientists believe the H1N1 virus is no more of a threat than seasonal flu.

Earlier this week, one of the first scientists to properly analyze the genetic makeup of the virus stated that the it may have escaped from a laboratory.

WHO has since repudiated the claim.
